Fundraising - but not for me this time.

I found out last night that TKBMA (Tokyo Bike Messenger Association) is in a bit of debt from throwing CMWC last month and a global effort has been taken up by the messenger community to help them out a bit. I found out about this through connections I had made with a few messengers in Chicago while In Tokyo who are throwing a charity alley cat this Saturday to benefit TKBMA.

The event is being called downtown.shakedown.v2 and is being orchestrated by Chicago messenger Nico, who while being a really cool guy won first male in this years NACCC’s in Boston and placed 16th in Tokyo. The race starts at Daley Plaza, 50 w Washington, in downtown Chicago at 7pm this Saturday the 10th and costs $7. Check out the event page on Facebook here or contact Nico directly at nicocabrera84@yahoo.com.

Also, if you are in the giving mood you can donate to help cover the plane ticket costs for the male and female winners of this years NACCC’s for the trip to next years CMWC in Guatemala. As stated previously Nico took first male and co-Chicago courier Christina, who also took 3rd female in Tokyo won 1st female and 1st overall at this years NACCC’s. Normally the host city of the NACCC’s will pay for the plane ticket to the top male/female winners to the following years CMWC but The NACCC’s this year did not charge an entry fee and did not have the fund to put towards the cost of the tickets, so the messenger community is stepping up and trying to raise money for the tickets instead. If you want to donate to this cause you can do so at this website.

-EDIT- Ok, so I discovered that the fund raising site is expired at the moment, so as soon as a new one gets set up I'll post that link here.
